Lipizzaner Stallions, from Battle to Ballet
Set to a Strauss polka, this performance by the white Lipizzaner stallions was shot at their original home, the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Known for their intricate dances and spectacular “Airs Above the Ground” – all developed for use in battle – the horses survived World War II with a little help from equine enthusiast U.S. Gen. George S. Patton. To this day, they demonstrate how the tools of war can be beaten into pure beauty.
