E.L.O. - "Telephone Line"
Before there was MTV, before there were answering machines, before there were even….cordless phones, there was E.L.O. and this eerie 1976 “green vinyl” single. Thanks to YouTube, we can now excavate our earliest musical memories and attempt to unravel the muddled meaning we gave them (e.g. I thought this song was about a daddy trying to reach his little girl from across a great big ocean). This video may not deliver the colors or trippy effects you’d expect from a band called Electric Light Orchestra, even for the 70s, but they still manage to sound like they’re singing from beyond.
